Why do people consider female gamers to be out of the norm?
I am a female gamer, and I find it hard to tell people who aren't gamers that I am. They seem to think it's odd, and unusual for a girl to play games. I want to explore that.
What makes someone a nerd?
I am also interested in this one because it could be because of several different things. It could be appearance, or it could be actions, or it could be what someone is interested in. I find it interesting that we have to label people and know what they are by classifying them into a group.
Why are artistic or creative jobs not considered practical?
I am interested in going into film for my career, or even writing and photography. Most people wouldn't consider those practical jobs, and I'm wondering why that is.

Prewriting #6: Initial Response
After reading the article on torture, I feel that the author didn't really cover the bases of any of the religions. They briefly mentioned what articles had been written and how those have affected people. The author did talk about the religions and how certain religions view torture, but it wasn't as in depth as I hoped it would be.
I don't feel like this was really an argument for or against torture. It was more of a overview of different religions and how they see it. Not necessarily arguing for one side or the other on torture. The author did say that most religions were finding ways of condoning, and "fixing" the viewpoints on torture.
I did find it interesting that different religions have different viewpoints. And that how religious you are affects your perspective on is considered torture, and what is a religious way of condemning someone. I wish the author had gone into more detail about how religious people are and what they think of as torture.
Overall, it was interesting article. I just wish there had been more detail on the things covered.

Will virtual reality be limited to the gaming world?
Believing:
Virtual reality will be limited to gaming. I don't see any possible outcome in which it can be used for something else. When I think about virtual reality, I think about immersing myself into a game. A way to more freely explore worlds, or make a game more interactive and personal. Video gaming is virtual reality. I would imagine you can create your wolds to play in where the rules are set by you, the game master. You can even share you worlds with other players, or just keep it between friends. It could also be the immersion of your senses into a game. Where you actually are the character in the game, and you run around saving the world. It would be extremely cool, and I would like to think I will be able to do this one day. It would also be a cool way to improve games such as dungeons and dragons. The dungeon master could create a world and run it as his/her players run around the world defending, attacking, or role playing. You could actually play as your characters, and do as they would do in a lot of different worlds and battles. Virtual reality will improve the lives of nerds everywhere.
Doubting:
Virtual is not something will be limited to gaming. I can see it as you create scenarios for people to live out. Such as training simulations, or practicing some necessary skill. You could an actual surgical room with various patients for different procedures for doctors to practice on before they do the real thing. You could also help to improve flying simulations. Instead of sitting in a box in a room somewhere, you would "actually" be flying a plane and practicing how to correctly fly it, and handle it in various dangerous scenarios. It would also be an immersion into the world of movies. You could be in a room with the movie and walk around the characters. You could explore every part of the set, and watch everything from different things without actually intervening in the movie. It would be a really cool way to experience it. Or if you want to learn how to do something. You can look up a how to video and can actually be in a room with an expert and learn to do the things that they do.

Observation activity Blog #3
Once again I am here to talk about virtual reality. You might be asking yourself, "why does she keep revisiting this topic?" or "isn't this getting old?" You may think so, but I do find this to be very interesting so I shall write about again.
This time though I am here to talk about actual reactions I have gotten from people when I bring up virtual reality. Some think it's a cool idea, and others find to be overly useless. The people who think it's a good idea are a lot like myself. Into video games and grew up in the science fiction world, and someday want to be a part of that. The ones who thought it to be a waste of time were more "practical" about how they want to spend their life.
They said, and I'm paraphrasing, "Why would I want to use my time to go to a nonexistent place when the world already so nice?" Or something along those lines. They found it to be a very poor use of time, but then again they are probably also against any type of video game as well. I do think it's interesting as to why they think that way. They aren't the type of people who like entertainment. Don't get me wrong, they love movies and what not, but they don't care for the cool parts of it.
I was glad to have heard a different perspective about virtual reality. I would love to do more research into all sides of it. I'm all for it, but learning the pros and cons of it would be cool to know.

Literacy Narrative Blog
My experience with writing began when I was in seventh grade. At the time I wanted to get into reading so I asked my brother Austin what book I should read. He told me I should read "Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card. So I went to my library at my school and I checked out "Ender's Game." I fell in love with that book. I thought it was so well written and the story was just so great to read. It inspired to start writing my own material.
So I thought of some ideas and wrote down the first part of all the stories I would come up with. If I liked the story enough or knew where I wanted it to go I would write more of it. There aren't very many I have finished, but I got a lot of experience from writing out my ideas. I was able to learn to use flow in my writing, and I got used to writing dialogue.
I was getting better, but my writing was still not correct grammatically or advancing in my stories. I would get stuck easily and didn't know how to move on. I wanted to get even better so I talked to my friends about what I should I do. I found out that they were all writing stories and would frequently exchange them for editing and advice. They asked me if I wanted to be a part of it and I accepted.
Over the next two years my writing improved greatly. My friends would give me deadlines and I would have to write a certain amount of my stories before I gave it to them. I was able to get past being stuck all the time and continuing my stories in the right direction. I also able to get editing as well. I would get so many different pointers on what was wrong and how to fix it. I feel like my writing wouldn't be as good as it is if I didn't have my friends.
I also know that my writing changed a lot my junior year of high school. My English teacher was taught me how to correctly write several different kinds of essays I would need to know how to write. I was also shown some grammatical things that I had always had a problem with. My teacher had also shown me how to use databases and how to cite them when using them in a paper. She also helped me with the flow of my papers when using a citation. My essays have improved because of her.
I'm thankful I had my friends and my teacher to help me with my writing skills. I know they wouldn't be as good if I didn't have them help me in the past.

Observation Activity Blog #2
To continue going off of my last post, virtual reality is a very forward idea. Most people who grew up watching science fiction or even various anime know about this. It's something that as children, you want to experience. I recently found an article where Samsung has integrated their technology into head gear to immerse you into a virtual world.
By putting on the gear you can experience a 360 view of a made up world. Although it only immerses your vision, it's just the beginning. Virtual technology is still advancing, and hopefully one day it can be a fully immersed experience.
One thing I have noticed is that although is amazing technology I don't think many people would use it. It would inconvenience them rather than benefit their life. I think that most people who would use it are the people who are into gaming, or just want to experience a new world. It wouldn't be a very popular concept among your average person.
One day will this technology actually benefit your average person?
Or will it just be to improve games and entertainment?

Observation Activity Blog #1
One thing that I have noticed that has been a big thing recently is virtual reality or VR. Virtual reality is something that has been a concept in science fiction for years, and now people in our world are able to create basic virtual worlds. We haven't gotten anywhere near the point of something similar to the Matrix, but we are immersing our world more into the development of VR.
One item that has been developed that is used by the gaming community is the oculus rift. You were it like a pair of goggles and the screen for the game you are playing on is right in front of you as if you were living the game through the eyes of the player. It is a really interesting product, and it has definitely gotten the idea of VR out into the world.
Some questions I have about this are:
Will virtual reality be like a holodeck kind of a thing or more like the Matrix?
If virtual reality becomes a real thing, how many people will actually use it?
